The SPREE Prototype Framework

The spree prototype has been online at www.askspree.de since May 2007. spree creates an active online community where everybody shares knowledge and benefits from other users' knowledge alike. The spree technology automatically channels user questions to competent fellow users who are willing to help. spree enables real-time communication between knowledge seekers and appropriate experts via its chat interface. In addition, users may edit notebooks or store chat histories and thus contribute to a constantly growing knowledge base.

Prototype features

The spree prototype provides the following features:

  • Automated categorization of natural language questions
  • Automated identification of the experts most qualified to answer a given question
  • Automated categorization of web pages during the registration process
  • Rating of experts and highscore lists
  • An expert can modify his expertise profile using his browser
  • HTTP-based chat between expert an user
  • Storage of notebook entries/blogs
  • Monitoring and visualization of which experts are currently online
  • Tooltips providing detailed information about other users
  • User Management based on Cookies and Password authentication
  • Expert email notification
  • RSS feed showing an experts incoming questions
  • Google desktop widget showing an expert's incoming questions
  • iGoogle widget showing an expert's incoming questions

We have decided to release all server and client side code of the spree prototype under the AGPL license. You can thus easily create your own expert community or include spree's expert finding technology into your projects.
